By Steven Johnson | Last Updated: October 18, 2020
Whether you are a handyman, a cigar enthusiast or a chef, a refillable butane lighter (or torch) is a must-have tool. Offering an astounding level of versatility, devices of this kind can be used in hundreds of different ways. However, not all butane lighters on the market offer the high level of quality that the five products featured on this guide do.
Apart from describing in detail what makes these products stand out, this guide will offer objective insights regarding their pros and cons. As if that was not enough, it will provide useful information about refillable butane lighters and torches in general.
Best Refillable Butane Lighter in November 2020
1. Fat Panda – Best Refillable Butane Lighter for Professional Use
Featuring an unprecedented five-pronged jet flame, the Fat Panda Quintuple Jet Torch Lighter provides a remarkable amount of power. This feature, in combination with its efficient ignition system and outstanding maneuverability, makes this refillable torch lighter a great option for people who need consistency and reliability.
Apart from providing a nice heavy feel and making the device very durable, the Quintuple Jet Torch Lighter’s zinc alloy body resists a great amount of heat and has a quick cool down. Meanwhile, its built-in Piezo ignition system is well-constructed enough to be reliable and consistent.
Speaking of the device’s built-in Piezo ignition, it needs to be said that this system is extremely responsive and effective. In fact, the Quintuple Jet Torch Lighter lights up every time you push its ignition button. This is true even in extreme conditions such as powerful winds and rain.
Perhaps the most useful advantage that this product has is its versatility. On one hand, its elegance and practicality make it great for the type of indoor use that a cigar enthusiast or chef would give it. On the other, this refillable butane torch is powerful, reliable and resistant enough to be used outdoors for camping, hiking or anything else.
Ergonomic body design. Comes in elegant gift box. Can be used in extreme environments. Features built-in Piezo ignition.
Expensive. Somewhat heavy.
2. VVAY 3 Jet Flame – Best Refillable Butane Lighter for Cigar Enthusiasts
Despite being compact and comfortable to grip, the VVAY 3 Jet Flame Torch Cigar Lighter is quite powerful. It features three burners. Each of these burners produces enough power to be windproof. What’s more, the three burners combined produce a considerable amount of heat, making this product versatile enough to be used in a variety of settings.
Precision and Adjustability
As previously mentioned, this refillable butane lighter produces three powerful flames that, combined, can create a great amount of heat. It should also be mentioned, however, that these three flames are fully adjustable. Using a small button on the bottom of the jet lighter’s body, you can precisely control the level of the flame according to your needs.
A Great Option For Cigar Lovers
In addition to the adjustment button, at its bottom, this jet lighter features a cigar punch that will often come in handy. Considering that this lighter is a favorite among cigar enthusiasts, this is not a random addition by any means. Whether it’s just a casual thing or a regular practice, the device’s size, grip and power make it a fantastic tool for lighting up a stogie.
Ease of Use Above Everything
The manufacturer’s of the Jet Flame Torch Cigar Lighter clearly set out to create a product that does not produce a headache every time it is used. Far from it, this refillable butane lighter is compact, practical and very easy to use. Largely, this has to do with its design. However, the high-quality mechanism that drives the ignition also plays a huge role in making this device the reliable piece of machinery that it is.
Adjustable triple jet flames. Comes in an elegant gift package. Features cigar punch in the bottom.
Clunky ignition. Difficult to refill.
3. Cobber Torch Cigar Lighter – Best Universal Valve Butane Lighter
This compact, sturdy and modern-looking refillable butane lighter does not only stand out due to its design. To the contrary, its performance is what truly makes the Cobber Torch Cigar Lighter shine. With a body that is made of high-quality metal, this lighter has a nice heaviness to it. Apart from giving it a more luxurious feel, the toughness of the metal protects this lighter against impact and other types of damage.
Without a doubt, one of the most interesting features that the Cobber Torch Cigar Lighter has to offer is its universal refill valve. This type of refill valve enables customers to use the brand of their choosing when the time comes to refill this device. It should be noted, however, that it is very important to use only high-quality butane to refill a product such as this one. Using a low-quality valve may damage the lighter’s mechanism and hinder its performance.
Another feature that makes this product stand out among similar ones is its red flame. This flame does not only look cool but serves a very important purpose: To make itself visible in the sunlight.
Universal refill valve. Built-in cigar punch. Sturdy metal body. Large flame base.
No safety shutdown system. May leak.
4. Icfun Torch Cigar Lighter – Best Triple-Jet Butane Lighter
Featuring a compact, modern and aesthetically-pleasing design, this product by Icfun is a fashionable accessory. That is not all it is, however.
Its three jet burners produce powerful and stable flames that will stay lit no matter what conditions they are subjected to. This feature makes the Torch Cigar Lighter well-suited for outdoor activities as well as indoor ones.
Unlike other butane lighters and torches on the market, the Icfun Torch Cigar Lighter is very easy to refill. Its valve can be pushed with ease using a single finger while holding the unit upside down. However, it does not pop out so easily that it gives way to accidents. What’s more, its transparent tank makes it easy to discern when it has been completely filled.
Due to its good looks, high level of quality and usability, the Icfun Torch Cigar Lighter makes for a great gift. Being fully aware of that, its manufacturers decided to include a convenient bonus gift with it: An elegant gift box. As if that wasn’t enough, this product comes with a no-questions-asked 60-day guarantee.
Three-torch flame. Windproof flame. Universal refill valve. Flame regulation system.
5. GD Portable Luxury Fire Extinguisher with Key Chain – Best Collectable Butane Lighter
Perhaps the most visually-attractive item on this list, the GD Portable Luxury Fire Extinguisher makes for a great gift. As its name so clearly indicates, this product looks like a tiny fire extinguisher. This may be a bit ironic as it also produces a powerful jet flame that is perfect for lighting up cigars.
Being rather compact and lightweight, the GD Portable Luxury Fire Extinguisher can be taken anywhere with comfort and ease. Furthermore, it includes a keychain that will help you hold on to it even if you tend to be absent-minded (or have absent-minded friends).
Despite looking somewhat like a toy, the Portable Luxury Fire Extinguisher is actually a very serious tool. Its butane-powered blue flame is powerful and steady. What is more, it reaches great temperatures and maintains them for prolonged periods of time. All this, in combination with its ergonomic design and its quality construction, results in a great performance every time.
Exquisite design. Features keychain. Includes free car sticky pad.
Not for professional use. Not very durable.
Best Refillable Butane Lighter – Buyer’s Guide
Main Uses of Refillable Butane Lighters
Refillable butane lighters are versatile enough to be used for various different purposes. Some of the most outstanding are:
Being reliable, durable and efficient, butane lighters and torches are great for smokers. In particular, cigar enthusiasts will appreciate the stability and overall quality that a butane lighter has to offer.
Making Small Repairs
As many professionals already know, refillable butane torch lighters are a great tool for performing tasks such as soldering, welding, shrinking or cutting rope. As a result, these devices are often used by professionals for both home repair and industrial purposes.
As if that wasn’t enough, using the right technique, butane torch lighters are ideal for removing paint quickly and easily.
Being extremely reliable and effective, butane lighters are a perfect tool for being used in the kitchen. On the other hand, torch-style refillable butane lighters are often used for performing delicate techniques such as caramelizing sugar, melting cheese, glazing ham or searing a steak.
Making Jewelry and Other Crafts
People who are heavily involved in the production of jewelry and other types of crafts swear by the effectiveness of the refillable butane lighter. In fact, this type of lighter is the ideal tool for soldering earrings, soldering small links and doing glass blowing.
What to Look for in a Refillable Butane Lighter
Apart from being efficient and powerful, a good refillable butane lighter needs to be ergonomic and easy to use. For that reason, design is very important when it comes to this kind of device. An ergonomic design prevents strain and fatigue from affecting your hand and wrist muscles. Meanwhile, a user-friendly design makes the device easy to maneuver in order to be precise and effective.
Without a doubt, the most important function that a butane lighter has is the ignition. A good butane lighter should be instantly and easily ignited by pressing the ignition button. Conversely, its flame should be immediately extinguished as soon as the ignition button is released. Furthermore, once ignited, the flame should be steady and stable.
All the best butane lighters and torches feature a precise flame adjustment lever or switch. When considering buying a particular model of refillable butane lighter, be sure to test this feature and evaluate its fluidity.
Ideally, your new refillable butane lighter should have some sort of safety mechanism that prevents it from being accidentally ignited.
How to Use a Refillable Butane Lighter Safely
Without a doubt, one of the most remarkable advantages of using a refillable butane lighter is its level of safety. However, because it is a flammable substance, you should always follow some precautions when using butane in any way.
- Avoid inhaling the fumes that are released when the device is used.
- Keep canisters of butane away from flammable or hot objects and surfaces.
- Don’t smoke near a butane lighter or canister.
- Always use butane in a well-ventilated area.
- Don’t store butane in a non-approved can or container.
- If you need to refill the lighter, make sure it cools down completely first.
- When using a butane lighter or torch in an industrial setting, wear protective gloves.
- Keep butane lighters and canisters away from children.
- Don’t store butane canisters in the same area where you work.
Without a doubt, each and every one of the products featured on this guide is worth looking into. Apart from being reliable and efficient, these products come with the kind of guarantees that only experienced and successful brands can offer. However, the final choice is all yours. Hopefully, this Buyer’s Guide will help you make the best decision for your personal needs.

The 12 Best Cigar Lighters You Can Buy in 2020 (Reviews)
Updated September 11, 2020 by Randy Ray
If you have no time to waste, here are my top 4 cigar lighter recommendations:
- Best Affordable Cigar Lighter: Windblaze(Only $29)
- Best Mid-Range Lighter: Xikar Volta Quad(This is a tabletop lighter.)
- Best Luxury Lighter: S.T. Dupont Defi Extreme
- Super Luxury: Davidoff Prestige Diamond Cut Lines Gold Lighter
This post offers reviews of the 12 best cigar lighters you can buy in 2020.
You don’t have to smoke cigars for long before you realize that cheap matches or plastic, convenience-store lighters won’t be good enough. In fact, you should never light a cigar with a cigarette lighter or cigarette matches. You can easily ruin a good cigar with these.
You need a lighter specific to your cigar smoking needs. The tobacco used in cigarettes is dry tobacco, but the tobacco in a cigar is moist. You need fuel for the lighter that won’t damage your cigar’s taste (i.e. butane), and the size of the flame needs to be wider to give you a more even light.
So use this guide to pick out the perfect cigar lighter for your budget and preferred flame.
I’m also including more tips and advice about how to choose the best lighter for your budget and other circumstances.
1- WindBlaze Torch Lighter
The WindBlaze Torch Lighter is a newcomer to the cigar lighter scene. It’s a fantastic cigar lighter that I think you’ll enjoy as much as I do.
The pocket-sized lighter is great because of its reliability. The windproof design makes it easy to light your cigar in any environment. The torch flame is windproof and at an angle, making it easy to light any cigar.
The ergonomic construction makes the WindBlaze a must for any cigar connoisseur. I have bigger hands and sometimes have issues with smaller lighter mechanisms. The WindBlaze is easy to use for larger hands and smaller hands alike.
What really makes this cigar lighter my top pick is the price and look. The WindBlaze Torch Lighter comes in at just under $30.00.
And the gunmetal casing is a real eye-catcher. I’ve had several friends ask about it when we’ve been smoking cigars at my house.
Last time I checked, you could buy the WindBlaze Torch Lighter for $29.00 directly from the manufacturer.
They’re made in the US and shipped directly to you.
2- Vertigo Triple Torch – “Titan”
For just $16.99. the Vertigo Titan is one of my top picks for a budget lighter. The Vertigo offers predictable performance along with an attractive style. Even though it’s less than $20, it doesn’t LOOK like it’s less than $20 — that matters to some people more than others.
Vertigo (by LOTUS) offers a one-year warranty on their lighter, too. So, even if it stops working or stops working optimally, you can get it replaced with the warranty.
In fact, unless you spend more than $100 on a lighter, it probably won’t last more than a year no matter what.
If you’re on a budget, looking for a gift for a cigar smoker, and don’t want to buy an actual cigar, you could do a lot worse than buying your friend a Vertigo Titan.
A triple torch is always awesome, too.
3- Alec Bradley Table Cigar Lighter
If you’re not traveling with your cigars, the Alec Bradley Table Cigar Lighter is probably your best choice. It offers an ideal combination of an affordable price with a huge butane capacity.
In fact, you can light hundreds of cigars before having to refuel–the combination of fuel-efficient, low-light flame along with the huge fuel capacity makes this possible.
The flame is as big as you’d expect from such a big lighter. In fact, you don’t need to spend much time at all lighting your cigar with this one. It’s meant to be left on a table, though, so it’s not really portable.
Imagine a Bunsen burner that’s used for pleasure instead of chemistry experiments, and you’ll have a good idea of what you can expect from this one.
I like this one because it gives you the best chance of getting your cigar evenly lit, which can be challenging when using a torch lighter. (Multiple torches make that easier, but it’s still not as easy as using this table cigar lighter.
As of this writing, the Alec Bradley Table Cigar Lighter retails for $79.99, but I saw it on sale for $56.99 when I was researching this post. That price could change at any time, though. Even at full retail, it’s well worth the money.
4- S.T. Dupont Maxijet Single Torch Cigar Lighter – Matte Black
I love the design of the S.T. Dupon Maxijet Single Torch Cigar Lighter, in no small part, because the window makes it clear how much fuel you have left. It’s also light-weight and portable, but it’s hefty enough that it feels good holding it.
The S.T. Dupont is easily one of the best cigar lighters you’ll find. The model I’m recommending is one of the more affordable lighters from this manufacturer. Many of their other models cost several hundred dollars.
Their lighters make a unique sound upon being opened, and cigar fans in the know will respect your choice.
If this one’s within your budget, you can’t go wrong with it — unless you just hate the color (or lack thereof).
5- Xikar Volta Quad Flame Tabletop Cigar Lighter
Xikar Volta Quad Flame Tabletop Cigar Lighter is another tabletop lighter, but it’s got a more modern look than the Alec Bradley I recommended earlier in this post. It’s a hefty, solid cigar accessory, too–it weighs 1.2 pounds.
The design is unusual. The lid opens like a camera aperture, which keeps dirt and ash out of the lighter.
The flame is big enough for the biggest of cigars, too.
With some lighters, the fuel gauge is harder to see than others. The Xikar makes this easier, too.
The Xikar comes with a lifetime warranty, too.
I saw it available at Famous Smoke for $135, but the prices there change without warning sometimes. It’s worth every penny of that $135, though.
6-S.T. Dupont Defi Extreme
With its black and red finish, this is the most attractive and stylish luxury lighter on the list. Every lighter from S. T. Dupont is one-of-a-kind, too, because the person who put it together engraves his initials on the lighter. (Don’t worry, though — the initials are small and under the striker wheel.)
All the Defi Extremes are engineered for top-notch performance regardless of the conditions you’re smoking in. During tests, the lighter worked even with winds blowing more than 20 miles per hour. It also works regardless of altitude or temperature.
The S. T. Dupont Defi Extreme makes a perfect gift for any stylish cigar smoker.
The Defi Extreme retails for $300, but it’s usually on sale at this link for around $250. Pricing is subject to availability, though, so click on the link for the latest price.
7- Vector Megatron Triple Flame (Mahogany Marble Lacquer)
The Megatron from Vector is one of my favorites. It features 3 flames, and, with its 2-tone mahogany and marble lacquer finish, it’s one of the most attractive lighters on this list.
The Megatron opens and closes automatically and has more fuel capacity than most of the other lighters on this list.
The retail price for the Megatron is $60, but you can find it at a discount at this link. The latest sale price I saw on the Megatron was $39, which means it’s 33% off. Of course, that price is based on availability. I try to keep this page constantly updated, but I can’t be sure everything is up-to-the-minute perfect with pricing.
This would make a perfect gift for an older gentleman who enjoys smoking and the finer things in life.
8- Xikar Lighter Element ELX
I think if you like the Xikar brand and their tabletop lighter, it would only be natural to see if their company also made a portable lighter. The Xikar Lighter Element ELX fits that bill perfectly.
The Xikar Lighter Element ELX comes with a double-jet flame and a built-in punch cutter. You can buy this in multiple colors–black, bronze, or charcoal.
I saw this one available on Amazon at a discounted price of $52.95. I saw the same lighter on the manufacturer’s website for $69.95, though. Keep in mind that prices from Amazon change all the time, though.
My friend Brian, who used to write for this blog, has used the Xikar Lighter Element ELX for a long time, and he loves it.
9- IM Corona Old Boy Chrome Hairlines Pipe Lighter
The IM Corona Old Boy Hairlines Lighter is the kind of cigar lighter I’d expect someone from a steampunk story to use. This one’s designed for both cigars and pipes–the flame is adjustable and works at 90 degrees.
The reviews for The IM Corona Old Boy Hairlines Lighter are universally positive. This one makes a great gift and is well-made. It comes in a lovely, high-end box, and it should last a long time.
The image doesn’t give a good idea of how solid or hefty this lighter is–it looks light, but it’s solid.
Some lighters require multiple tries to light, but this one lights EVERY time. The fuel seems to last longer with the IM Corona Old Boy than most of the other portable lighters I use.
At $115.20, it’s not the most affordable lighter on my list, but it’s not unreasonable, either. Keep in mind that the price and availability are both subject to change.
This isn’t a low-end lighter, but the price is right if you don’t mind paying for quality.
10- VECTOR Thunderbird Soft Flame Flip Top Butane Pipe Lighter in Wood Plate
The Vector Thunderbird Soft Flame Flip Top Butane Pipe Lighter in Wood Plate is another great option if budget’s a concern. With its flip-top, it looks a lot like a Zippo, only classier.
It has a 45-degree angle, so you could easily use this for pipes as well as cigars. It comes in a gift box, so it’s another affordable gift option.
It also has a certain style that fits a certain personality. I can see how someone who thinks Zippos are really cool might prefer the VECTOR Thunderbird to some of the fancier and more expensive examples I’ve reviewed here.
11- Colibri Uber Premium Butane Cigar Torch Lighter Triple Flame Large Table-top Solid Metal (Perdomo Black)
I’ve used various Colibri lighters for years, and I’ve never been disappointed. (I used to think the brand name was spelled “Calibri,” but I’ve since become better-educated.) This one uses a 3-jet flame and is durable, heavy, and has a large tank.
You’ll probably also appreciate the one-year warranty from the manufacturer.
The only drawbacks to this Colibri are minor:
- It’s not really portable.
- It’s branded with a specific cigar name.
Those could be considered features for the right cigar aficionado, though. Some smokers prefer to have a lighter that doesn’t go anywhere.
And if you like Perdomo cigars, you’ll probably have no problem having their branding on your lighter, too.
Best of all, this is one of the most affordable “big” cigar lighters you can buy. I saw this one for sale for $29.73 on Amazon, but that price might change at any time.
12- Cedar Cigar Lighter Strips
I’ve sometimes been in the position of not having one of my lighters with me. In those cases, I like to buy a box of matches and grab a couple of cedar strips. You can get a box of matches for less than a dollar, and my local tobacconist offers cedar lighter strips free of charge when you buy a cigar there.
One of the reasons some cigar smokers prefer a “spill” over a match or lighter is that, when lit, the cedar strip imparts a slight cedar flavor to the tobacco. Plus, cedar is “cleaner” than typical matches, and since spills are longer, you have more time to properly light your cigar.
Using a cedar strip to light your cigar is old-fashioned, but it also imparts a specific, subtle scent of cedar to the cigar you’re smoking.
You can buy cedar strips on Amazon for less than a dollar each if you buy 50 of them at a time.
But that’s not necessary if you buy cigars by the box.
Cigar factories use cedar sheets to separate the cigars. You can fold these sheets and break them down into strips about half an inch wide and use those to light your cigars.
If you’re the meticulous type, you can also use an Exacto knife to cut these sheets into strips. A paper cutter would work as well, and I’ve even heard of people using scissors.
Cigar Lighters with Multiple Jets
My favorite cigar lighter of all time had 3 jets. It also ran through butane insanely fast. You can expect the same thing.
You really only need a single jet, and a cigar lighter with one jet should hold enough fuel to light a dozen cigars or so before needing a refill.
How to Choose the Best Cigar Lighter for Your Specific Needs
The most important considerations when choosing a cigar lighter are simple:
- What’s your budget?
- What kind of flame do you prefer?
Smoking cigars isn’t a hobby for the poor, but it doesn’t have to cost a fortune, either.
You can get a quality butane lighter for as little as $20 or $30. If you find one cheaper than that, good for you, but beware–you might run into problems with its function.
A “budget” cigar lighter costs between $20 and $100.
If you want something even more luxurious, you can easily spend $200 or more on a lighter.
If you’re buying a cigar lighter for a friend, don’t skimp on the cost. Your friend will know.
Different cigar smokers go through different rituals when lighting their cigars. I prefer to have a lighter where you can adjust the flame depending on your conditions. I like to hold my lighter further from my cigar than some people, so I need a lighter with a higher flame.
Not everyone needs an adjustable flame, but it’s nice to have.
Those are my picks for the top 12 cigar lighters available in 2020.
I suggest buying no less than 2 cigar lighters. You should have your main lighter, which is the one you’ll spend more money on, probably. You should also have a backup lighter for those inevitable times when your main lighter is out of fuel or when you’re traveling without your main lighter.
Also, it’s a nice idea to carry around cedar strips to light cigars with. If you have no other source of flame besides cigarette matches or a cigarette lighter, you can light the cedar strip and use it to light your cigar. This is an affordable option if you’re on a strict budget, too.
