How To Roll a Backwoods Blunt
You’re here because you love blunts. who doesn’t?! The pairing of ganja and tobacco goes back centuries — the two complement each other so well with an intense but euphoric buzz. Blunts are one of my favorite ways to medicate and there’s nothing quite like a perfectly rolled backwood.
Backwoods can be intimidating because they are the ‘rawest’ blunt wrap on the market — the wrap is straight dried tobacco leaf rather than processed tobacco pulp. This makes them exponentially more fragile than other blunt wraps like Swishers or Zig Zag wraps. One wrong move and you could be left in a crumbly mess of tobacco leaf. But fear not! Rolling a backwood can be just as simple as any other blunt or joint, it just takes a little finesse.
Backwoods come in a variety of flavors — honey, honey-berry, wild rum, black n’ sweet, grape, just to name a few. For this tutorial, we decided to roll up some Mochi from TKO Reserve in a delectable honey-berry backwood — a perfect combination to satisfy our sweet tooth.
Step 1 — Break weed up by hand
Time to grab your jar and pick out some choice buds! Break down those sweet, sticky nugs by hand (as opposed to a grinder) for a smoother smoke. On average, about 1.5-2 grams will fit in a backwood blunt, but since they are just raw tobacco leaves, the size of the leaf varies per package.
Step 2 — Find the edge of the wrap
Find the edge of the leaf (left image) and track it down to the tip of the cigar (right image). This will ensure a clean unravel.
Step 3 — Gently peel until loose then carefully unravel and remove tobacco innards
Once you’ve followed the edge of the leaf to the end of the cigar, gently begin to peel the leaf away from the cigar. We’re trying to fill this backwood with something much more delicious, so once you’ve unraveled the tobacco leaf, gut the insides into an ashtray.
Step 4 — Place broken buds in wrap to the desired fill
Unlike other blunt wraps, every backwood leaf is unique in shape. This can make it a little more difficult to fill because it doesn’t have a natural pocket for your ganja. Now that your weed is all broken down, find the center point down the leaf and lay out your herb in a line down the wrap.
Step 5 — Tuck one side of the edge around weed until secure
Get ready to tuck. Hold the blunt between your index/middle fingers and your thumb.
Step 6 — Roll leaf up entirely over the weed, tucking it in along the way
Gently roll the leaf edge closest to you up and over the weed, tucking it into the other side while gently applying pressure with your thumb to make the blunt tighter.
Step 7 — Gently apply pressure and complete the roll
This is the trickiest part, but it’s just like rolling a joint; once you have it down it becomes muscle memory. Don’t worry if some weed falls out, you can always use it to top off the blunt once it’s rolled.
Step 8 — Generously lick edge then press down tightly to seal
Once the blunt is tightly tucked and rolled, it’s time to seal that ish. Since the tobacco leaf is uneven, there will be a leftover tail that will help seal the blunt wrap. Generously lick that extra bit of leaf and wrap it around the blunt, using your lips to push down and seal the leaf tightly.
And just like that. you have a beautiful backwood blunt! How To Roll a Backwoods Blunt You’re here because you love blunts. who doesn’t?! The pairing of ganja and tobacco goes back centuries — the two complement each other so well with an intense but ]]>
