Breakfast sandwich is unreal – Pipes Cafe
This place serves up heaps of eggs and potatoes but the breakfast sandwich is really great. Flavored coffee is a perfect compliment and the surf videos are always current and perfect for that morning coffe before you head out for a surf

Super friendly staff, laid back vibe, tasty breakfast, large portions, in a great location. I will definitely be back!
On our last day on our trip we decided we wanted a great breakfast spot to grab a bite to go and head to the beach and dine. I remembered reading about Pipes. Easy to find although parking is a bit of a challenge. We stood in line and being New Mexicans for years immediately landed on the breakfast burrito. We both enjoyed the bacon egg potato and cheese. I requested my pica sauce on the side not knowing what to expect. The burrito was enormous! The pica sauce was tangy and spicy and I thoroughly enjoyed too much of the whole experience. Definitely could share a burrito unless you are super hungry! There are a few tables to dine inside and out. The place was active the entire time we were there. The value is crazy and it’s easy to see why the locals love this spot! Breakfast on the beach was perfect with our handheld burritos the size of logs and our coffees! For under $10 this was a morning feast for the senses.

An Encinitas landmark and tradition – Pipes Cafe
I used to stop by here every morning before school, order just 1 egg and coffee which I don’t even think is on the menu. Then on weekends later whenever we got the chance we would go for breakfast, as this is indeed “A Breakfast Place.” But it’s a truly Southern California menu, with most things involving avocado, this amazing potato-cheese-bell pepper concoction they make, burrito versions of all the basic breakfast items, along with perfect pancakes. It’s also something that if you are visiting the area you NEED to partake in. because this is another truly local scene, and something we in Encinitas treasure as a landmark and institution. All the servers are considered family by the owner, a retired pro-surfer himself, as you can see in the decor which is entirely boarding memorabilia. Look for the Blink-182 plaque up high just to the left of the kitchen entrance: they used to frequent the joint before they made it big and sometime after too. I ran into them twice eating lunch there. They do have a lunch menu which seems to be expanding, and the portions are HUGE. By “little breakfast” they mean you can eat for 3 days. All the ingredients are very fresh, and the food is probably so fantastic because I was told the cooks are also like family, so the whole place runs reflecting that kind of atmosphere. While it is a breakfast place, only open till 3pm, you can see people dressed in designer wear with $3,000 bags to surfers wearing nothing but their shorts sitting in the outdoor courtyard. You line up and buy your food first, then sit and it’s brought to you normally by surfer girls. It seems to always be full with a 10+ person line on weekends, but it goes fast, and you always seem to find a seat since many people eat fast. Dogs are welcome and loved in fact in the outside seating, and there’s also a coffee bar that makes everything you could hope for. We moved abroad last year and still it’s the one place we miss more than most things about San Diego.
