Hit Review

Background

Yocan (visit homepage) is a manufacturer from Shenzhen, China that provides quality and innovation in their vaporizers. They are known for making concentrate vaporizers like Regen (Review | Buy) and Explore (Review | Buy), and the Hit is an unusual release for them as it is a dry herb vaporizer aimed at beginners.

The Hit is an inexpensive vaporizer with a pen-like design and precise temperature control. It has a powerful 1400 mAh battery and has a convection heating method that out-performs some of the comparable vaporizers within its price range.

Design & Features

Most weed vapes are box-shaped but the Hit has a slimmer body that is more compact and less bulky. It’s made out of aluminum and has a metallic blue coating that leaves a nice glossy finish in it. At four inches tall with a cylindrical-shaped body, it’s portable and perfect for discreet vaping.

There’s a big OLED screen located in the middle of the device which gives all necessary information such as temperature and battery level. On the side of the device, the airways are located and beneath it is the temperature dial. The Hit is a simple and straightforward device but it also has some nice features:

  • Precise Temperature Control: You can set your temperature in single-degree increments from 200°F to 480°F and this is a feature that’s worth commending from a vaporizer within its price range.
  • Haptic Feedback: Unlike from comparable vaporizers such as Atomic-9 (Review | Buy), the Hit vibrates when the heating process is done.
  • Dual-Session Mode: You can switch between 3-minutes or 5-minutes session time that give you different experiences where the three-minute session is a little more intense while the five-minute session is a little bit more chill and relaxed.

Integrated-Stirring Tool

The Hit features a mouthpiece with a built-in stirring tool which some vapers might find useful. You can stir the herb in-between sessions to make sure the herbs are evenly burned to deliver more potent vapor. However, the Hit is a convection-type vaporizer, you won’t be using it as much as you would on other types of vapes—still, it’s a pretty nice additional feature.

Mouthpiece

The mouthpiece is magnetically connected to the battery which you can easily remove to load or stir the herbs. It has the same flaw as other small vaporizers- the heat has nowhere to dissipate and stays locked in the unit. This makes it hot to hold and the vapor might become harsh on the higher temp settings.

Heating Chamber

The Hit uses a convection heating method and has a ceramic oven that allows the herbs to be vaporized without being “burned.” It has air-intake holes and a screen at the bottom of the oven that’s easy to clean, fill, or even empty. Also, it has a smooth surface on top and you can easily put herbs into the oven.

How To Use

The hit is a straightforward device- it has a power button in the middle and temp dials on the side. You can precisely set your temperature in single-degree increments from 200°F to 480°F.

  1. Remove the mouthpiece.
  2. Load the chamber with herbs, and then replace the mouthpiece.
  3. Rapidly press the power button five times to turn on the device.
  4. Use the up and down buttons to select the temperature.
  5. To switch between sesh, hold the power button and temperature dial at the same time.
  6. Hold the power button for 2 seconds to start heating.
  7. Once the device has finished heating, press the power button while inhaling from the mouthpiece.

Cleaning & Maintenance: Since the Hit is a convection vaporizer, cleaning it is very easy. You just need to empty out the chamber after a session and then use the cleaning brush to get rid of any residue that is left over.

Performance & Vapor Quality

Performance

Yocan did a good job of making the Hit a functional vaporizer for beginners. The airflow is great- you can inhale the vapor whichever draw technique you want. Also, after every session, the herbs were brown and crispy which is a clear sign that the herbs are thoroughly vaped.

However, there’s a flaw on this device—its size. Since it’s small, the Hit gets warmer after being on for a while. It has a maximum temperature of 480°F that’s high enough for the herbs (or even the device) to combust so I suggest you don’t go beyond 420°F to prevent it from happening.

Vapor Quality

The vapor produced by the Hit is quite tasty and much better than you would expect for a vape that costs under $100. You can probably guess that the convection heating and the integrated stir tool have a lot to do with that. With the ability to stir the herb while you’re vaping, you can maximize the flavor during each session by making sure that every single piece of herb gets fully vaped.

Battery Performance

The Hit is packed with a 1400 mAh battery that can last for about a few hours of moderate vaping. It’s quite big for a vaporizer within its price range such as AirVape Xs Go (Review | Buy) and G-Pen Dash (Review | Buy). This may be the one area where you’ll see the inexpensive nature of this device since more expensive weed vaporizers tend to have larger batteries. At least, it uses a USB-C charger instead of Micro USB so recharge times are pretty quick.

Bottom Line

For an inexpensive vaporizer, it does stand out in a crowded market, however, If I were to compare the Hit to mid-tier dry herb vaporizers like Utillian 620 (Review | Buy) or K-Vape Pro (Review | Buy), it won’t stand a chance. Yes, it performs well, easy-to-use, and portable but if you’re an experienced vaper and looking for a replacement for your worn-out vaporizer, I suggest you go buy something higher. Nevertheless, this vaporizer is good for beginners who like the idea of having a pen-like dry herb vaporizer.

The Yocan Hit gives you features like convection heating and precision temperature control at a low price. Learn more in the review.

Yocan Trio Review

Kit and Accessories

  • Yocan Trio
  • One concentrate pod
  • One oil pod
  • One e-liquid pod
  • USB charging cable

Compatibility: The Yocan Trio is compatible with wax concentrates, oil concentrates, and e-liquids.

Design and Features

General Design: For a device designed to vape three different substances, the Trio is surprisingly simple. It has a single power button to control the preset temperatures and it only consists of two pieces, the pod you’re using and the battery to power it. That makes it remarkably easy to use since all you need to do is pop on a pod and you’re good to go.

The Trio isn’t a bad looking device. It’s a little different from Yocan’s usual design aesthetic because of the grooves inlaid on the front that give it some visual interest. Each of the pods has a tapered mouthpiece that blends in nicely with the battery and feels good to boot. The power button is well placed right in the center of the device, so it is easily accessible despite the Trio’s small size. The only design qualm I have is that the oil and e-juice pods are too similar looking.

Portability: The Trio is about three inches tall, so you can take it anywhere, in fact, a clenched fist will swallow it up completely. The pods are attached to the battery via magnets that feel strong and secure. So, I never had to worry that the pods would accidentally snap off while they were in my pocket, they stayed intact the whole time.

Cleaning and Maintenance

The dual quartz rod is the main consideration when it comes to cleaning, which helps to keep the Trio a low maintenance device. You clean the coils by using a q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol. For more stubborn residue, you can dunk the whole thing in iso alcohol for a few hours.

How to Use

With Wax Concentrates

  1. The wax concentrate pod is the solid black one. First, you remove the mouthpiece from the atomizer to expose the coils.
  2. Next, dab your wax onto the coils, and then reattach the mouthpiece.
  3. Turn on the device by pressing the power button five times.
  4. Select one of the preset temperatures by pressing the power button three times.
  5. Once heating is complete, inhale from the mouthpiece while holding down the power button.

With Oil Concentrates

  1. The oil concentrate pod is the one with a green tinge. Remove the mouthpiece from the pod.
  2. Remove the rubber seal from the pod and pour your oil into the tank.
  3. Reattach the seal to the tank, replace the mouthpiece, and then attach the pod to the battery.
  4. Press the power button five times to turn on the device.
  5. Press the power button three times to select a preset temperature.
  6. Inhale from the mouthpiece while holding down the power button when heating is complete.

With E-Liquid

  1. The e-juice pod is the one with a white hue. Separate the pod from the mouthpiece.
  2. Remove the rubber seal from the tank and pour the e-juice into the tank.
  3. Replace the seal, reattach the mouthpiece, and then connect the pod to the battery.
  4. Turn on the device by pressing the power button five times.
  5. Choose a temperature by pressing the power button three times.
  6. Once heating is complete, inhale from the mouthpiece while holding down the power button.

Temperature Selection: The Yocan Trio has three unspecified preset temperatures. Low (White) | Medium (Blue) | High (Green)

Performance and Vapor Quality

Wax Concentrate Performance: The Trio uses a dual quartz coil so it heats up the wax pretty quickly, while keeping the flavor pure. The highest setting is the best here. You can probably assume that the vapor produced by this device is not as potent as that produced by a dedicated vape pen. That assumption would be right. The vapor isn’t as dense and the flavor isn’t as strong, but for a tiny multi-substance vaporizer, it isn’t bad.

Oil Concentrate Performance: I found that the low and middle settings are the best for vaporizing oil. At those settings, the oil had a nice flavor and aroma, it’s not better than a straight-up oil vape, but it’s still pretty good.

E-Liquid Performance: You should know the drill by now, the flavor is good, but not as good as it would be if you used an actual e-cig. That makes the Trio a jack-of-all-trades and master of none, but that is okay since few vaporizers offer the convenience and versatility that the Trio does.

As long as you don’t have expectations that the Trio will perform as well as a vaporizer that specializes in a single substance, you won’t be disappointed. The main big downside to this device is that its small size means that it can’t hold a lot of any particular substance. It’s not a big deal if you’re a light vaper, but if you vape heavily, then you might be refilling the Trio a lot.

Battery Performance: The Trio uses a 500 mAh battery that is good enough to last for a full day of vaping. It also recharges quickly, which adds to the overall convenience.
